Our youths, who are constantly developing as skiers, are the ones in need of the best skis. Unfortunately, the ski industry generally develops all-mountain skis for youths by just scaling down a popular adult model into shorter lengths. This often results in too stiff skis that are too difficult to ski, since the anatomy of youths differ so much from adults. With our long experience in ski manufacturing, and teaching our own children to ski, we wanted to create an all-mountain ski for youths that helped their development instead of opposing it. We simply believe that the next generation of skiers deserve as well-developed skis as we offer their parents.
With this assumption, we asked the young and talented skiers in Åre to develop the world’s first community-developed ski model for youths. The skiers have tested and evaluated prototypes in all different kind of snow conditions with the goal to develop the world’s best all-mountain ski. The request from the youths was a ski that could carve the slopes with ease, smooth in powder and spring snow, playful skiing the trees and jumping off kickers.
The result is Roots 90 – an all-mountain ski with a soft and dynamic flex that combines performance with a lot of playfulness. Quite simply the type of ski that makes young skiers develop all over the mountain. The ski, and the unique development process behind it, was awarded the international and prestigious ISPO Award 2020.
The skis are produced at Åre Skidfabrik with same high-quality materials as all other Extrem Skis, which makes Roots 90 the world’s most advanced ski for youths.
Since the skis are soft and flexible, we recommend the same length of skis as the rider's body length. If the rider is more advanced than average, or weighs more than average, you can choose a little longer ski than body length. If the rider is less advanced than average, or weighs less than average, you can choose a slightly shorter ski than body length.

Poplar wood core
The knot free, vertically laminated wood of snappy poplar is a medium lightweight core that gives a playful character of the skis. Combined with Titanal the skis become stiffer and torsional rigid yet keep its playfulness. Without Titanal the skis are just super playful. A CNC-milled and integrated 55x650 mm wood plate of beech secures the mounting of the binding.
Prepreg glass fiber
We are quite unique to use dry Prepreg epoxy resins instead of letting our employees handle liquid epoxy when building skis, which is otherwise practice in the ski industry. Our glass fiber rolls come industrially impregnated with HexPly M78 from our supplier Hexcel, a world-leading producer of advanced composite material for the aerospace industry. This results in a dry, safe and great work environment for our ski builders and significantly increases the quality of the skis.
Austrian race base
We like to ski fast! Therefore, we use highest quality Isospeed 7515 race bases from Austrian Isosport GmbH. These running bases are made of ultra-high density polyethylene with high quality graphite for best gliding properties in a wide range of conditions.
Extra thick steel edges
For maximum durability of our skis, we purchase one piece steel edges from the well renowned Waelzholz GmbH, who have manufactured steel edges in Germany for over 50 years. We use their extra thick and durable Profile 132 that is 2,3 mm high and 2,2 mm wide for all models except Fusion 95 Carbon Ultra, where we use a 1,9 mm high and 1,5 mm wide edge to minimize weight.
Top sheet
For best wear performance and abrasion resistance, we use sublimated 0,55 mm Isocap ICP 8210 top sheets with structured surface from Austrian Isosport GmbH.
